Encounters with Canada is an opportunity to visit the Terry Fox Centre in Ottawa and learn about our nation's capital. It is a chance to see our MP’s at work in question period and to hear how “polite” they are to each other. It is a chance to sit in the Senate Chamber. It is the chance to talk with an MP or a House of Commons Page. It is a chance to see Canada’s Parliament in action. It is the chance to meet great students like you from all across Canada.

SEVEC is the national exchange program sponsored by the Canadian government. It provides the opportunity for school or community groups to spend some time in another part of this great country. Take your leadership group across the country to network with another school and learn from each other.

Canadian Official-Languages Programs offered by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada. CMEC offers the Summer Language Bursary Program, the Official Language Monitor Program, and the Programme de bourses pour francophones hors Québec. The Summer Language Bursary Program alone sends over 7,000 students each year to learn their second language and explore its culture. Excellent opportunities for leaders.

Mygapyear.ca is a new business which provides coaching services to help young adults design a custom plan for a gap year between high school and university/college, and between university/college and beyond.
This is the first business of its kind in Canada. mygapyear saves clients hours of work and reveals possibilities that might not be realized. The follow up coaching sessions ensure plans are implemented and the personal learning is captured.

Ontario Educational Leadership Centre  (OELC) The centre is found on Lake Couchiching near Orillia and provides student leadership camps for student council, music, athletics, arts and peer helping. A listing of courses, times, contact information and costs are found on this site.

YLCC  Youth Leadership Camps Canada is the summer leadership camp experience. Learn and laugh with your friends during this amazing camp experience.

National Outdoor Leadership School  This is a wilderness-based, non-profit school focusing on leadership skills. Information and publications available at this site.

Camp Summit  Outdoor education and adventure camp providing experiential education and leadership programs. Overnight summer camping for kids & youths from 7 to 17. Located in Squamish, BC, Canada.

 

Leadership Groups

Forum for Young Canadians   is Canada's longest running and most successful youth program about Canadian government and our governmental institutions. Established in 1975, Forum is operated by the not-for-profit educational Foundation for the Study of Processes of Government in Canada. The bilingual and strictly non-partisan program brings approximately 600 students (aged 15-19 years) from across Canada to Ottawa in four separate sessions each spring where they spend a week on Parliament Hill to experience first-hand how Canadian government works and the values it promotes.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award  The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a high quality, enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development activities for anyone aged 14-25.

Maryland Leadership Workshops, Inc.   Maryland Leadership Workshops, Inc. (MLW) is a non-profit organization that has been providing comprehensive leadership training programs to students in the Mid-Atlantic region since 1955. MLW became affiliated with the Maryland State Department of Education in 1976 as a "gifted and talented" center, and shares a partnership with the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC).

Hartwick Humanities in Management Institute The Hartwick Humanities in Management Institute is a not-for-profit organization which develops and distributes its Hartwick Classic Leadership Cases and Hartwick Classic Film Leadership Cases to schools, colleges and universities. These case studies teach students about many different aspects of leadership by using classic works of literature as well as classic and popular films.

SNN - SchoolNet News Network  SNN is an online multmedia journalism project for K-12 students from across Canada. SNN shows students how the media works, gets them writing in a journalistic style and publishes their work online. SNN helps students keep up with what's happening with their peers in other parts of the country and makes them aware of the issues facing young people. It offers student leaders forum for their ideas and allows them to communicate with other students about issues of mutual concern. Each monthly issue includes news, opinion, sports, entertainment and science/technology stories. Some feature audio and video clips, photos and links to relevant sites.
