MORNING
ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO
CLASS
-
Use a song to signal the beginning of announcements (not just bells). Have a
wide range of music that is appropriate to the season. TV themes are good,
especially kid's shows, but they must be used sparingly. A small mixer will
allow you to run background music while announcements are being read.
MORNING
RADIO
SHOW
-
Have students considering a media career run regular spots. (sports,
entertainment)
VARIETY OF
NATIONAL
ANTHEMS
-
Find versions from different groups and singers. Have different groups in your
school sing.
VOICES
-
There are two approaches: variety or consistency.
ALTERNATIVE
LOCATION OF A
PA SYSTEM
-
Announcements from the main office can be distracting and/or disruptive to
normal office procedures. A little rewiring and the purchase of an amplifier
can put your announcement team in a more suitable location, possibly the
student council office.
-
IMPORTANT
QUESTIONS
-
Who is it for and who will be listening?
What are your standards?
Has there been any improvement over time?
How many people are being addressed compared to the number requiring attention?
-
POINTS
TO
CONSIDER
-
The PA system is one of the worst ways to pass on information. It makes
announcements.
Posting the announcements allows people to receive information.
Be positive and use appropriate language.
Remember that the PA can be as much of a weapon as it is a tool. Use it wisely.
